This year at the end of May, the quaint little town of Mank in Lower Austria, is not going to know what’s hit it. From 21.5 – 24.5 The Schagerl Brass Festival will be taking place
For the first time, the company ‘Musikhaus Schagerl’ will be hosting a Brass festival in the nature of a big brass family reunion. Musicians of all groups are invited to take part and enjoy the interesting and various big and small happenings within the festival
Emphasis is placed on educational enrichment, getting to know one another and, of course, on the single most important element of music – enjoyment! The names of the Lecturers and artists, who have agreed to attend this event would appear on the Who’s Who list of brass music: Mnozil Brass, Austrian Brass Connection (lead by Hans Gansch), Gansch & Roses, professors and first grade solo-trumpeters. Professionals, students and amateurs will have the incredible chance of meeting top ranking instrumentalists in their respective fields of music and be able to socialize with them in a relaxed and easy going atmosphere.
The Festival will begin with the cult formation Mnozil Brass, who will present their Concert program "Das Gelbe vom Ei".
From Thursday on, courses will be offered under the guidance of renowned lecturers. Participants will have the opportunity of attending any course of their choice. Individual lessons will also proceed in master class style – learners will have to practice in front of the group.
The members of Mnozil Brass will pass on their know how to course participants and offer practical as well as theoretical advice on all instrumental aspects of brass music.
Trumpet courses will be held exclusively by teachers from recognized universities and institutions. Amongst others are: Professor Hannes Läubin, Gabor Tarkövi, Florian Klingler, Professor Wolfgang Guggenberger, Professor Erich Rinner, Markus Bebek, Franz Wagnermeyer und Tobias Füller.
The trombone troop is no less renowned: Edgar Manyak, Bertl Mütter, Otmar Gaiswinkler, Walter Voglmayr und Wolfgang Pfistermüller will deal with all questions concerning the trombone.
Thomas Jöbstl und Markus Obman will be at the disposal of all participants interested in Horn.
For those interested in the lowest tones of brass music, the tubists Jon Sass and Willi Brandstötter and Erich Bendl will be on hand to give advice.
Course participants will not only have the chance of working on concert, lecture and orchestral pieces with the lecturers, but be able to discuss matters relating to the preparation of entrance exams to a Conservatory of Music or to a university. Of course, participants are welcome to simply chat about the basic principles of brass music
Brass chamber music will not be missed out at this event. Lecturers, including Professor Thomas Clamor, intend to compile brass ensembles with course participants and to work out pieces with them.
Existing ensembles are just as welcome to take part in the festival and work on and consider concert programs together with the lecturers.
But that’s not all! The festival has other surprises and treats in stall for visitors. Professor Hans Gansch and Andy Haderer will be holding lectures. Likewise, Jazz trumpeters, Thomas Gansch and Ingolf Burghardt will be available for discussions and questions on jazz phrasing, big band practice etc.
The evening program is entirely reserved for musical enjoyment: Besides the opening concert by Mnozil Brass, there will be sessions by the Upper Austrian Brass Band with the soloists Hans Gansch and Florian Klinger and others.
Friday night is jazz night! Guests can expect a hot and lively performance by Thomas Gansch and his Gansch & Roses band along with their special guests (one of these being Andy Haderer). The Austrian Brass Connection concert (lead by Hans Gansch) will, as always, be an exceptional listening experience.
During the entire Festival, participants will be able to visit and get a closer look at ‘Musikhaus Schagerl’ and its master production shop. On these ‘Open House’ days the complete assortment of instruments will be placed at everyone’s disposal to test and try out. In addition, the ‘Schagerl Haus’ team will be standing by to give assistance and advice to visitors and participants, should it be required.
Such a Brass music Event has never before been arranged and at no time ever have so many renowned artists and lecturers come together to a festival of this dimension. Every brass player will find something of interest.
So, don’t miss it!
